International Cacao of Excellence awards is a cacao growing competition held every two years. We have won the highest honor (the gold award) twice in a row for the cacao we grow on our cacao farm right here in Lahaina Maui. Once in 2021 and again in 2023. Over 200 farms from around the world enter to compete in the Cacao of Excellence competition. No other farm in the world has ever won the gold award twice!

Objectives of Cacao of Excellence
- Increase awareness and promote education across the cacao value chain on opportunities to produce superior quality cacao and preserve flavours resulting from genetic diversity, terroir and the know-how of cacao producers.
- Facilitate communication and linkages between cacao producers and operators in the supply chain to promote market opportunities.
- Increase the capacity of producing origins to recognise, value and preserve cacao quality and diversity.
- Improve farmers’ livelihoods through increased market value of quality cacao.

Chocolate flavour profile description
Dark, reddish-brown colour. Mild fruit acidity and low/balanced bitterness and astringency smoothly support the chocolate note. Clear raisin notes blend with wood and mild spice notes along with dried herbs and trace floral flowers. Complex, balanced, unique with a long finish of the blended characteristics.

Chocolate flavour profile description
This chocolate features a unique and complex flavour profile combining fresh fruits, acidity, mild spices, and nut notes. It offers a good chocolate flavour with balanced medium bitterness and astringency. The finish is pleasant with a honey blend.

We won the dark chocolate category in 2022 for our 70% dark Maui chocolate! Then we won again in 2024 for our 70% dark Semuliki Forest Uganda chocolate.
