The mission of Maui Ku‘ia Estate Chocolate Inc. is to give back to the nonprofit community - more specifically, to donate 100% of our net profit back to local Maui nonprofits. We take our kuleana very seriously and despite never being profitable to this point due to COVID and the wildfires, we have been able to donate over $100,000 every year we have been open.
We have achieved this by conducting weekend tastings and now factory tours, donating 100% off ticket sales. Our open-air pavilion is utilized for nonprofit fundraising events for no site fee and every Sunday the space hosts Sunset Jazz and all ticket sales are donated to the Arts Education for Children Group. We have also periodically donated a percentage of online sales to nonprofits, as well.
We would like to say mahalo nui to all of our loyal customers throughout these first few years of our small chocolate company’s life. You are the reason we can fulfill our mission and will be able to continue to give back in the future.
On Sundays, we offer a Factory Experience and donate 100% of the ticket sales to rotating local Maui nonprofits. Check out the calendar to see when you can book a tour to support a local nonprofit! Below is a list of nonprofits that we support through this program.
Mahalo nui to everyone that has purchased and continues to purchase chocolate online to support our mission!
For sixty years, Lahaina Restoration Foundation has been responsible for the restoration and maintenance of historical buildings in Lahaina and the preservation of Lahaina’s Hawaiian and historical sense of place. On March 2, a gala benefit event was held at the Old Lahaina Luau and employees of Maui Ku‘ia Estate Chocolate were in attendance to support the continued work of LRF. Maui Ku‘ia Estate Chocolate donated $15,000 to LRF and we look forward to the continuation of LRF’s leadership in restoring historic Lahaina.
The Hua Momona Foundation continues the much needed effort of providing 400+ hot meals several days a week to those affected by the Lahaina fire. Hua Momona has provided about 30,000 hot meals with a lot of Aloha so far and has also provided over 400 CSA style farm boxes for those with kitchens. The housing and employment challenges remains for several thousand people in west Maui. Hua Momona Foundation remains committed to continuity of service to the community.
On this Thanksgiving Holiday, we want to send a big thank you to all of our customers around the world for supporting our mission to fund our local nonprofit community.
Your online purchases have allowed us to choose Common Ground Collective as the recipient of our second $10,000 donation in order to support their efforts providing food to people suffering from the after effects of the Lahaina Fire.
A significant component of their mission is to increase food security and related economic opportunities. That mission was never more relevant than after the fire when thousands of people were disconnected from their homes, livelihoods, and food sources. Common Ground Collective immediately began organizing and engaged the Maui College culinary faculty and students, the Chef Hui, World Central Kitchen, farmers, and an army of volunteers to produce food for people in need. Hundreds of thousands of meals were created and distributed throughout Maui. Most recently, Common Ground Collective delivered 600 turkeys during Thanksgiving week and plans on donating an additional 400 for Christmas.
We applaud their hard work and performance in carrying out their mission during these difficult times!
We want to thank Nā 'Aikāne o Maui for all the amazing work they have been doing at their hub since day one, and as cultural monitors in Lahaina. On 10/05/23, we donated the first check of $10,000 from online chocolate sales to this very deserving nonprofit.
We would also like to thank all of you, our valued customers, who purchased and continue to purchase chocolate online. We sincerely appreciate everyone waiting patiently for their orders as we work diligently to try and catch up!
